Turn a GPX file into a race poster

You ran it. Race Map draws the route as a poster you can frame. Drop in the file from your watch, or the course file from the race website, then pick a look and a size and download a print-ready PDF.

It is free. No account, no watermark, no limit on downloads. And your file never leaves this tab, because there is no server to send it to.

How it works

  1. Get your file. On Strava that is ⋯ → Export GPX; in Garmin Connect, the gear icon → Export to GPX. Most big races publish their course as a GPX too. Where the export button hides in each app →
  2. Drop it on the page. Your distance, time, elevation and heart rate come off the file. Trim the warm-up off the start, fix any number, add your own title.
  3. Print it. Pick a theme, drag the map where you want it, download a PDF at 300 DPI. PNG and JPEG are there for sharing.

Sizes that fit frames you can buy

The sizes are the ones IKEA sells frames for, 21×30 cm up to 70×100 cm, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1, which are the ones Kmart sells. Portrait or landscape, with or without the mount from the box, and the poster is laid out for the shape you pick so the route is never cropped. Which size to pick, and why A3 does not fit an IKEA frame →

Common questions

Is Race Map free?
Yes. No account, no paid tier, no watermark. You get the full-size PDF every time.
Is my GPX file uploaded anywhere?
No, your file is read by this browser and never sent anywhere. Only the map tiles are fetched, and they show the area you are looking at, not the line drawn over it.
Which file formats can I use?
GPX, TCX, and the FIT file straight off the watch. Planned routes as well as recorded ones.
Can I make a poster from a Strava activity?
Yes. Export it as GPX from the activity's ⋯ menu, then drop the file here.
What size should I print it at?
30×40 cm on a wall with other things, 50×70 cm when the poster is what people should look at, 21×30 cm for a shelf.
Will it print sharply at 70×100 cm?
Yes. The PDF is 300 DPI at the real sheet size, so that poster is 8268×11811 pixels.
Does it have to be a race?
No. A sportive, an ultra, a hike or a road trip works the same, and you write the labels.
